Web Design - Getting Started.

Where to Start?

Well at the beginning. It's always a good place to begin.

When I started out building my very 1st WebSite, I knew absolutely Nothing! I mean I had absolutely no idea all.

I remember those days just like it was yesterday - well really it was over 8 years ago...

I got hold of a program called FrontPage. It was good because it let me draw my layouts in it and I could write text and insert picture and create links. move stuff around etc....

It basically let me build my very 1st website without knowing too much at all

For the beginner who knows nothing - programs like Frontpage and Dreamweaver are great to get you started out.

But they don't come cheap. If you can afford them, then by all means get yourself a copy of either of those. But...

There are free alternatives to get you started!

Just keep in mind though that the more costly programs like Frontpage and Dreamweaver do make things really nice and simple! Well Simpler...

Free Programs are not as advanced as the splash your cash varieties, but they'll get you going, none the less..

What ever you do choose, there is a learning curve associated with how to use these programs. It's not going to be instant Click Click and there is a website. If only it were that simple... Remember people are still and always will be making a living building websites for others. So be prepared to put in some time on this. Ok!

I still like building all my websites using a simple text editor... I found that playing in these editors restrictive, but that is just me. If you do have time to learn the insides, then you can do anything.

Really there isn't that much to learn for building a basic website.

This website is a basic (very basic website) BUT I can change all that afterwards with my CSS and templates. But that is for another time.

Take a look for yourself!

Did you know that you can actually view my website source code. Take a look, it won't byte!

It is a very good way to "See how others have done it"!

OK, in your web browser just Right Click your mouse button any where on the page and a Menu Box will appear.

If you have done that you'll see the HTML Source for this page. It's pretty simple huh!
